Greetings from the infirmary

Well we were supposed to be hitting the road for Vermont today and a series of events just
ended that plan. We were supposed to go up for New Years and Tim got sick. Now, Olivia
has come down with a doozy and is running 104.4 fever. She looks and feels like crap. Our
4 wheel drive pickup had to go into the shop so I had lined up a rental one. I thought if Olivia
recovered in a few days, we'd go anyway but now I am coughing and Tim has just begun to
also. I try not to even get my hopes up for vacations anymore. I'll believe it will happen
when we actually get to the destination. Too many circumstances and illnesses seem get in
the way. On a good note, it looks like Tim does not need kyphoplasty. He had a skeletal survey
done which mentioned "worsening" of 2 compression fractures that we had never heard that
he had in the first place. Now the follow-up MRI's showed that he doesn't seem to have
compression fractures. He's got a lot of disc damage etc. in his lower back which we knew
about and is job related but nothing too bad. Obviously he has signs and effects from the MM
but nothing that needs to be addressed now. He also had to go back and have an MRI on his
shoulder due to months of pain and I was dreading to hear he might have a torn rotator
cuff and need surgery. The recovery of that is long and painful and I worry so much about
these infections people are getting from surgeries. But it looks like he's got a case of tendonitis
with a little bursitis thrown in just to spice it up a bit. Not bad, we can fix that, I think. So I am
playing nurse bigtime around here despite having the plague myself. I think it's taking me
about 3 nights to come up with 8 hours of sleep and I am delirious at this point but am so used
to operating on little sleep that I actually function pretty well. Now if I could just stop reaching
for the sweets and carbs to try to pep me up, maybe I could stop gaining weight. 125 doesn't sound bad but I had to buy all new jeans and I have love handles for the first time in my life.
RATS!!!
